In 1922, Charles Pickman arrived to the city of Cadiz, in Spain, to take over his brother's business who had passed away. At that time, Spanish consumers favored English china and design over any other. The introduction of a new Tariff law made importing china difficult, thus Charles began manufacturing the china in Spain. Pickman - La Cartuja de Sevilla china factory was hence founded in 1841 and installed in the Carthusian monastery of Santa Marie De Las Cuevas. This location still exists today.Over the next half of a century, Pickman received numerous prizes and gold medals at exhibitions across the world.
