A blend of white, taupe, and silvery platinum creates a timeless elegance on this Noritake fine bone china. Intricately detailed but not dainty, the taupe border features a slanted chain design and classical scrolls in raised white enamel that is pleasing to the touch. On the plates, the chain design repeats in taupe-on-white at the inner edge of the rim, while lines of platinum add luxurious definition. Montvale Platinum teacup and accent plate feature a broader border of the white scroll on taupe.

Serving four diners, this twenty-piece set includes four of each of the following: a footed teacup; 6-inch saucer; 6-1/2-inch bread-and-butter plate; 8-1/4-inch salad plate; and 10-1/2-inch dinner plate. Montvale Platinum is crafted out of translucent fine bone china, which is much more durable than many consumers realize. Though intended for formal occasions, the dinnerware certainly can hold up to the rigors of everyday use. The platinum precludes use in a microwave, and, while dishwasher-safe, the china is best cared for when washed by hand. --Ann Bieri
